Padre Pio
A prize-winning journalist and author who was personally acquainted with Padre Pio tells the saint's life story in a popular, easy-to-read style.

Praying in the Presence of Our Lord With St. Padre Pio
During his 58 years as a Capuchin friar, Padre Pio never stopped encouraging the faithful to receive Jesus in the Eucharist and to pray in the presence of Our Lord in the Blessed Sacrament. During that time, thousands upon thousands of pilgrims streamed to Pietrelcina, Italy, to be there as he celebrated Mass, to receive the sacrament of penance from him, to seek his spiritual guidance, and to ask for his prayers. Among them, in 1947, was a young Father Karol Wojtyla who, later as Pope John Paul II, proclaimed him St. Pio in 2002. Now you can enter into the presence of Our Lord in the Eucharist accompanied by this humble stigmatist (one who suffers the wounds of Christ crucified). Here are his words and his prayers on life's sorrows, fears, trials, temptations, and joys.

Padre Pio
This is the story of Padre Pio's life, illustrated with color photos from one of his innumerable Masses. May it inspire many to a life of greater faith.

Padre Pio Glimpse into the Miraculous

Padre Pio Gleanings

Padre Pio under Investigation Chronicles the life of the priest and saint Padre Pio, particularly the Vatican's investigation of his stigmata in 1921 through documents recently released by the Catholic Church.

Listening to God with Padre Pio
In his great love for everyone, St. Padre Pio felt everyone's pain, whether moral, physical, or mental. He wanted to share their pain and help to alleviate it through his intercessory prayers, through his gifts of healing and reading of souls, and through his own endless suffering from the ever-bleeding stigmata. Bring your sufferings, your pain, and your confusion to St. Padre Pio as you meditate on his writings, experiences, and advice. Through Padre Pio's intercession, God's loving presence will change your life and give you joy, peace, and inner security. You will be more accepting of your sufferings, knowing that Jesus suffers right along with you and for you. Padre Pio Father Pio bore the stigmata, the five ever-bleeding wounds of Christ Crucified in his hands, feet, and side for fifty years. Through his many gifts, including healing, reading of souls, and counseling, he was used by God to bring help and comfort and healing to the millions who sought him during his long life. From the Introduction We should be on the alert for every slightest sign of uneasiness, and as soon as we realize we have fallen into dejection, we must turn to God with filial confidence and abandon ourselves completely to Him . I beg you to set aside these excessive and useless anxieties. The Lord is with you, and there is no room for fear. Padre Pio

God's Doorkeepers: Padre Pio, Solanus Casey and Andre Bessette
Padre Pio and Andre Bessette would have readily agreed with Solanus Casey even though, on the surface, none of the three had much to give. All grew up in humble circumstances, each suffered poor health, and none achieved academic distinction or prominent positions in their religious orders. They were, to all appearances, the sort of people others overlook. Yet in their lifetimes, untold numbers found physical and interior healing through their ministries, and since their deaths their fame has grown enormously. Their secret was the secret of every successful Christian life: In complete humility, they abandoned themselves to the will of God. Bessette and Casey literally answered the door at their monasteries, and Pio was something of a spiritual doorkeeper in the confessional. God's Doorkeepers reveals how these miracle workers, in spite of their lowly circumstances, inspired and continue to inspire those who seek a healing encounter with God.

Tales of Padre Pio
Inspiring stories of Padre Pio's miracles, clairvoyance and bi-location. Capuchin monk and spiritual leader, Padre Pio (1887-1968), is known and venerated throughout the world. Drawn by his stigmata (bodily wounds similar to those of the crucified Christ) and by his extraordinary powers of spiritual and physical healing, literally millions of people have made their way to his little monastery in Italy from every corner of the globe. "Tales of Padre Pio" is a collection of first-hand accounts of various meetings with this humble and holy friar. Driven by curiosity and a bit of skepticism, the author first sought out Padre Pio some forty years ago and soon became a fervent disciple. Convinced of the man's saintliness, he remained a close confidant until Pio's death. As fascinating and inspiring as these stories are, they represent just a small portion of the countless miracles attributed to Pio. "The full extent of his authentic miracles will, however, never be known," the author reminds us. "But the example and spiritual splendor of his life," McCaffery continues, "is there for all to see. And that life, his attributes, and those works which we know constitute a tremendous rebuttal of all the blind and stupidly presumptuous godlessness of our present age." This book is a most distinguished addition to the Image line and will be warmly welcomed for the spiritual riches it contains. In addition, students of ESP and mystical phenomena will find "Tales of Padre Pio" especially provocative, stimulating, and truly captivating.

Secrets of a Soul : Padre Pio's Letters to His Spiritual Director

Agony of Jesus
A true treasure of spiritual insights, this little booklet contains the remarkable meditations on the Agony of Jesus in the Garden of Gethsemane by Blessed Padre Pio, the stigmatist priest. One of his few writings, the booklet also includes many pictures of Blessed Padre Pio from throughout his ministry. Padre Pio's beautiful and descriptive manner of writing provide a wonderful spiritual insight into that last night of Jesus' human life. Excerpt: "Jesus has returned to His place of prayer, and another picture, more terrible than the first, presents itself to Him. All our sins with their entire ugliness parade before Him in every detail. He must clothe Himself with this entire unclean mass of human corruption and present Himself before the sanctity of His Father, to expiate everything with individual pains, to render Him all that glory of which they have robbed Him, to cleanse that human cesspool in which man wallows with contemptible indifference. And all this does not make Him retreat. As a raging sea this mass inundates Him, enfolds Him, oppresses Him. Behold Him before His Father the God of Justice, facing the full penalty of divine justice. He, the essence of purity, sanctity by nature, in contact with sin, indeed, as if He Himself had become a sinner! Who can fathom the disgust that He feels in His innermost spirit? The horror He feels? The nausea, the contempt He senses so vividly? And having taken all upon Himself, nothing excepted, He is crushed by this immense weight, oppressed, thrown down, prostrated. Exhausted, He groans beneath the weight of Divine Justice, before His Father, Who has permitted His Son to offer Himself as a Victim for sin, as one accursed."

Padre Pio and America (eBook)
First titled, The Holy Man on the Mountain, this book tells the fascinating life story of Padre Pio, with emphasis on his life as a seminarian, young priest and his early decades at San Giovanni Rotondo. Incredible is the number of times the Capuchins sent him home sick unto death while a seminarian and young priest and how he was finally sent to remote San Giovanni Rotondo “For a couple of weeks of mountain air.” He never left. But from this small, remote mountain friary, he became world famous and exercised unbelievable influence on the entire world—though early on, he was forbidden by his superiors to preach, to write or to correspond. A few clerics developed enmity toward Padre Pio, resulting several times in orders from his superiors that he be moved. It is simply hilarious to learn why ne never was—though being under obedience, he was entirely willing to do so. The author also weaves in the Saint’s early work with L’Americana, Mary Pyle, his “foreign ambassadress,” and then with the American GI’s who came to visit him during WWII, with San Giovanni Rotondo was liberated from the Germans. Padre Pio developed a special love for Americans and America—to the point that he wished that all Americans would become his spiritual children. This book demonstrate Padre Pio’s great love for his parents, his amazing sense of humor, his abstemious eating, his uncanny knowledge of people (even before they visited), and his profound supernatural awareness. In sum, Padre Pio and America is an inspiring book that will instill a profound awe in readers because it shows the impact a truly saintly priest can have on all who come into contact with him—and in Padre Pio’s case, even on the whole world! “Your book is excellent! I found it hard to put down. . . . It is easy to commend your work. . . . The Lord reward you forever.” -Fr. Angelus M. Shaughnessy, O.F.M. Cap.

Who is Padre Pio?
Padre Pio of Pietrelcina (1887-1968) is probably the best-known saint of our times. A stigmatist since 1915 when he received the invisible wounds of Christ, he bore these marks visibly from 1918 until his death. Padre Pio possessed remarkable gifts, including celestial perfume, the reading of hearts, bilocation, prophetic insight, miraculous cures and remarkable conversions. Plus, he could smell the stench of sin in penitents. Though Padre Pio was renowned and sought out as a confessor, it was his indescribably edifying way of saying Mass that affected most people. Though forbidden under obedience to write letters or to preach, this humble Capuchin monk became known worldwide for his counsel, piety and spiritual direction. Who Is Padre Pio is a brief, incisive and absorbingly interesting account of a priest who was canonized in 2002 and who certainly ranks among the church's greatest saints. It was written anonymously by a former Mason converted by Padre Pio, and is laid at the feet of the Church in humble thanksgiving to the man who put him on the way of salvation.

Secrets of a Soul: Padre Pio's Letters to His Spiritual Director
This rare glimpse into the heart and soul of Padre Pio reveals the profound spirituality and humanity of the beloved Capuchin friar whom Pope John paul II canonied in 2002. Beyod the extraordinary events that accompanied padre pio's life, these intimate letters attest to his personal struggles, worries, temptations, and fears. Padre Pio suffered much, but hoped even more in the One he loved deeply: Christ Crucified.

Words of Light: Inspiration from the Letters of Padre Pio
The world was startled in 2007 by revelations that Mother Teresa of Calcutta's spiritual life was full of serious doubts and personal suffering for nearly 50 years. The other great saint of the last half century - Padre Pio - offers similar revelations of his own in this enlightening collection of short excerpts from his letters. Many books have been written on the life and works of Padre Pio, but "Words of Light "is not a book about what others think or say about him. Here, he speaks for himself. If you are interested in the complexities and challenges of contemporary faith, you will benefit from these short teachings, counsels, and recollections culled from some of Padre Pio's most personal writings. "In these letters I quickly discovered the same states of soul that were described by the great mystics. Padre Pio's own 'dark night' was in no way inferior to that described by John of the Cross, and equally the 'living flame' of his love for God dazzles the reader and allows them to catch a glimpse of another world." - Fr. Raniero Cantalamessa, from the Introduction

Lives of the Saints for Every Day in the Year

Father Butler's famous Lives of the Saints ranks only after the bible, the Missal, and The Imitation of Christ as the all-time most popular and authoritative Catholic book. The material in this handy one-volume edition is taken from the tomes of the highly revered Father Alban Butler, an English Catholic priest and scholar who devoted almost 30 years of meticulous research to the lives of the Saints and whose work was originally published in the 1750's. This present edition contains Father Butler's spirit of profound faith in and reverence for our saintly traditions. Additional saints have been added, however, who have lived since Fr. Butler's time. These saints include: St. Therese the Little Flower, Pope St. Pius X, St. Catherine Laboure and others. This book is still based on the traditional Catholic calendar (as of 1955). Giving approximately one page per saint, plus a brief reflection based on the virtues of the saint of the day, this is an extremely valuable resource to read daily in order to put oneself in tune with our holy Catholic traditions and to develop a truly Catholic approach to life. Included here, are the feast days of canonized Martyrs, Confessors, Virgins, Popes, Bishops, etc. plus holy days like the Nativity of the Blessed Virgin, the Assumption, the Exaltation of the Holy Cross and many other feasts. New Saints and Blesseds of the Catholic Church

New Saints and Blesseds of the Catholic Church, Vol. 2

'In this second volume of New Saints and Blesseds of the Catholic Church are depicted the lives and deaths, the struggles and battles of those women and men who were raised to the honors of the altar by Pope John Paul II during the fours years from 1984 through 1987, in forty-nine beatification ceremonies and in seven canonization liturgies. ' Among them are Blesseds and Saints from a wide variety of countries, languages, ages and walks of life: lay people, religious, priests, and bishops, confessors and martyrs, including Edith Stein, Elizabeth of the Trinity, Titus Brandsma, Teresa of the Andes, and many more. All of them not only deserve reverence, but are worthy of imitation in their striving for perfection, in their fidelity to the Catholic faith and to the Church of Jesus Christ. ' The life of each one of these personages is portrayed briefly, occasionally in greater detail, followed by the homily which the Pope gave at the respective beatification or canonization ceremony. This papal address presents a very contemporary commentary on the life of the new Blessed or Saint. ' Anyone who reads these short biographies is edified and touched, moved to give thanks, that the Church, which today is so often reviled and criticized, is still in our days a ???Mother and teacher???, the Mother of Saints, and a guide to sanctity. Illustrated with many pictures .' 'Ferdinand Holb...ck, a German priest and renowned hagiographer, is the author of volume one in this series, and of Married Saints and Blesseds .' '

Prayers to the Saints

Praying with the Saints for the Holy Souls in Purgatory

Throughout the ages the devotions, prayers, and practices of the Communion of Saints have been offered up on behalf of souls in purgatory, the "Church Suffering." The saints' ardent desire to intercede for the holy souls impelled them to pray ceaselessly for their eternal rest. This inspiring book shows how you can join the saints in this act of divine charity, thereby attaining spiritual gifts for acts done for the souls that cry out to us for relief. "Over the years, Susan Tassone has been tirelessly writing and teaching about this revered tradition of praying for the Holy Souls in Purgatory. Her meticulous research and attention to both historical and spiritual detail has helped many to understand more deeply the value of this singular devotion and selfless way of prayer. She has brought a whole new dimension to this devotion, seeing it through the spiritual writings and traditions of saints throughout the centuries." Cardinal Ivan Dias

Real women who became real saints run the gamut from quiet to boisterous, single, married, divorced, post-abortive, social activists, hermits, academics, doctors and more. Among these women there is a friend for you, someone even a bit like you. Sanctity will never fit into a formula, but the women in Real Women, Real Saints have this in common: their deep love for God and the determination to live life in harmony with his will. The brief biographies in this book will help you learn to abandon yourself to God, as these women did, and live a rich, full life in return.

Saints - A Visual Guide

San Antonio, St. Patrick, St. Paul, Santa Claus &mdash these are just a few of the many saints whose names are familiar to everybody. Well over six million people in the United States live in a city named after a saint. Yet how any of us know the stories behind the saints whose names and images surround us? Edward and Lorna Mornin have been collecting images of saints from both high and low art for decades. In this handy guide they combine their research into 130 popular saints with fascinating images, answering often-asked questions: When did these saints live? What are their symbols? Did they actually exist? Drawing chiefly from western Europe and the United States, Saints: A Visual Guide goes beyond familiar portrayals to lesser-known but enlightening images of famous saints, not only in formal sculpture, painting, and engraving but also in such modest media as prayer and playing cards, coats of arms, commercial signs, and the like. Attractive, practical, and filled with fascinating stories, this little book will be an invaluable field guide for everyone even the most seasoned "saint spotter."

Saints - Gospel Artists (DVD)

It's an idea inspired by Pope John Paul II. "Be the saints of the new millennium," he told us. But before we can be saints, we need to know the saints. And so, it began: a pilgrimage through Germany and Italy with almost 100 Canadian university students, with visits in the towns, homes, and places of prayer of some of the saints of the Catholic Church. And the more we travelled, the more clear the picture became &mdash there is a resemblance between holy lives lived and lives living for the holy. Share in the lives of the young people who meet Saints and Blesseds in a new and very personal way in new Salt and Light Television film documentary. Filmed on location in Cologne, Munich (Germany) and Pollone, Mesero, Assisi (Italy)and Vatican City in August 2005. Discover the stories of Sts. Peter, Francis and Clare of Assisi, Teresa Benedicta of the Cross (Edith Stein), Gianna Beretta Molla, and Blesseds Rupert Mayer, Pier Giorgio Frassati and John XXIII, and let your heart be opened to the possibility of becoming a saint of the new millennium. Nothing connected with the Passion and Death of Christ was purely accidental. And although Our Saviour was unquestionably the central figure of Calvary, many other persons - by God's Providence - took part in the living drama of the first Good Friday. These persons too provide instruction for our own lives. Imprimatur.

Saints Behaving Badly: The Cutthroats, Crooks, Trollops, Con Men, and Devil-Worshippers Who Became S

Saints are not born, they are made. And many, as Saints Behaving Badly reveals, were made of very rough materials indeed. The first book to lay bare the less than saintly behavior of thirty-two venerated holy men and women, it presents the scandalous, spicy, and sleazy detours they took on the road to sainthood. In nineteenth- and twentieth-century writings about the lives of the saints, authors tended to go out of their way to sanitize their stories, often glossing over the more embarrassing cases with phrases such as, “he/she was once a great sinner.” In the early centuries of the Church and throughout the Middle Ages, however, writers took a more candid and spirited approach to portraying the saints. Exploring sources from a wide range of periods and places, Thomas Craughwell discovered a veritable rogues gallery of sinners-turned-saint. There’s St. Olga, who unleashed a bloodbath on her husband’s assassins; St. Mary of Egypt, who trolled the streets looking for new sexual conquests; and Thomas Becket, who despite his vast riches refused to give his cloak to a man freezing to death in the street. Written with wit and respect (each profile ends with what inspired the saint to give up his or her wicked ways) and illustrated with amusing caricatures, Saints Behaving Badly will entertain, inform, and even inspire Catholic readers across America.

Saints For The Sick

In this intriguing new book, bestselling author Joan Carroll Cruz presents 76 mini-biographies highlighting saintly Catholics who faced intense, long-term suffering and disability with sweetness, peace and love for Jesus Christ. These stories show the triumph of God s grace where the world finds only ugliness and approaching death. They describe some lives so recent that the saint s family members are still living today, with many causes for canonization being currently active in Rome. Included here are Bl. Zelie Martin, who died of breast cancer; 14-year-old Bl. Isidore Bakanja, the Scapular martyr from Africa; the famous leper priest, St. Damien of Molokai; Venerable Matthew Talbot, the alcoholic; St. Germaine Cousin, rejected because of a birth defect; and little Nennolina Meo, who died from cancer of the bone, lungs and brain. Also included are persons who suffered from paralysis, amputation, deformities, breathing problems, mental illnesses, kidney ailments, intestinal disorders, and more as well as from medical treatment itself. Particularly remarkable are the children who suffered, including young people ages 15, 13, 12, 11 and even 6 ! For these there was no grasping at the remnants of earthly life but rather an eager anticipation of Heaven. These children showed unwavering resolve to suffer for the love of God and the conversion of sinners and they endeavored to console their parents. SAINTS FOR THE SICK is a book that reinforces our Catholic faith and gives renewed hope to those who are dealing with bodily struggles. Moreover, it puts us in touch with heavenly intercessors who will gladly help us for they know exactly what we are going through on earth. Includes an Index of Ailments.
